The consultation on the draft specifications for Leaving Certificate Irish L1 and L2 is open. Feedback and information will be gathered through online surveys, focus groups, bi-lateral meetings and written submissions. The timeline for the consultation has been extended and will remain open until 30 November 2021.

Based on stakeholder feedback to-date, stakeholder requests and given the challenging contexts in which our schools, teachers and students have been operating due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic NCCA Council is extending the current consultation period until the end of November 2021.

The online surveys, L1 and L2 will remain open until 5pm on 30 November 2021.

Written submissions will be accepted until 5pm on 30 November 2021.

Bi-lateral discussions, information sessions and consultative focus groups will continue over the summer period with stakeholders not directly involved in school settings.

From September onwards NCCA will facilitate additional bi-lateral discussions, information sessions and consultative focus groups with key stakeholders in our school communities; teachers, principals and post-primary students in both Irish-medium settings and in English-medium settings.

In addition to the consultation, NCCA will also carry out an early enactment review of Junior Cycle Irish, L1 and L2 in the new school year. This early enactment review will provide teachers and students with opportunities to share their insights, experiences, and views on implementing the Junior Cycle Irish specifications to-date.

At the end of the consultation process:

Once the consultation closes a detailed analysis of all feedback will be conducted and an interim consultation report will be published and made available on the NCCA website in early 2022.

An early enactment review of Junior Cycle Irish L1 and L2 will also be published and made available in early 2022.
